new maps - heart of gold

So the new server is up and running and a stunning job too. Well done Rod!

The only map that seems weak to me is Heart of Gold. It's a beautiful map, but it's very hard for Axis to defend. Particularly hard when there are only two or three players per side.

It's hard to point to exactly what it is that makes it difficult. But a few thoughts.

1/. It's too easy to move the truck. There is only one barrier that needs to be blown. Can we add truck barriers as in Goldrush?

2/. Again, as far as the truck is concerned, the road can't be mined. Once again in Goldrush, it's possible to delay the tank by placing mines at certain points. Can we convert parts of the road so that mines can be placed?

3/. The gold is very easy to get at. Even with the door built, there are still two ways to get to the gold. Can we place doors in these alleys that have to be blown?

4/. The door at ground level above the tunnel gate is useable by Allies from the start. Can this be made into a locked door/dynamitable door? I have played versions of Battery where the rear entrance could not be blown.

It's probably impossible to do any of these things, but I thought I would suggest them. Even if we can change the map in this way, it will probably always be one of those maps (like Battery or Radar) that are difficult for axis to defend unless there are seven or eight players on each side. But it's worth comparing Heart of Gold to those, because in fact Heart of Gold offers MUCH more access to the Allies than either Battery or Radar. Allies don't even have to blow the gate in the tunnel to gain access to the Axis side of the map - you can run from the spawn point up a side alley that takes you through. This means that action in this map is spread all over the map from the moment play starts - Axis can't easily focus on one or two points and defend them. In effect they have to defend three points of access from the very start of the map, two of which the Allies can use simply by running through them.

So my last question is whether we can close that alley that allows Allies to effectively run around the problem of the tunnel gate and shoot Axis in the back!

As I say, these are changes that require us to substantially edit the map. Which is something that I can only hope Rod knows how to do! If not, then I think we need to look for a map to replace this one.

I agree with everything you said Tim.
when i played in axis team i saw how hard is deffend obj in the game.
i think change this map to new one is good idea, but if Rod can edit this map that would be good Smile

Seem to be a big job for a single map.

As you said Tim, would be eventually better, easier and faster to simply change the map.

Rod will tell us more about the possibilities.

I do personally like venice ( but i know the map is buggy for the FPS, etc)

Any other ideas clannies?

Venice is good but laggy whenever I play it. ... but nice detailed map.

Can I make a suggestion? We have several servers after all! For main campaign server, Rod puts Venice in place of Heart of Gold.

Then on one of the other servers, Rod puts a few other maps he likes, and we can test-play them.

As always this puts a lot of pressure on Rod. So my suggestion is that this other test server is only done on a basic level, and only when Rod has the time. If we find a map we like, we can 'promote' it to the full server.

guys!! I agree with Tim totaly!!
About Heart of gold is a good map but have better maps in the wind but i pick that map because i was think in the previous version of this server we put online in the final of past year and many guys said is hard to understand this map or that map, so at this time i put good maps but i choose the maps based in how difficult will be to our guys understand then and get played, so i pick heart of gold to a choice because is a easy map to understand and have a good battle no matter if it was 3x3 or 12x12. I can suggest some other maps more beatifull or more wel done but a map to get full playable need some time to get then fully understand, no matter what map we choose we will need some time to know them like we know goldrush or others maps like the stock maps, we have been playing these maps for 5 years in our server, so we need to give a chance to a map be played for few times before say "i cant understand this map"or "i didnt like this map". I vote for we choose a map togheter!! I can put a server up only to test some maps! I will do a test server and for maps test (and for test other IP too to see if this improve the connection for some players) so everyone can connect there choose the maps and vote for then! About Venice i love that map but its a very big map and idk if will be a good map for less then 8x8 players, in my opinion with less players will be like an empty map.

About your last reply Tim, i suggest we choose a map before we change our server or all players will need to download a new file every time we change a map. I can suggest is create like 5 different campaigns and put then in the server (we can add many campaigns in the server and only refs can choose that camps to be played because our server is designed to not allow votes for change maps/campaigns) so if we choose to change the campaign again not will need to add a new campaign.

As for Venice, it is big, but many people seem to like it. I think it's worth trying for a week or two.

V2 Base is a small map very hard to be completed but its a good one!!
I will put some maps for we test it in a server tomorrow ok. we will need to spend some time to test them!!

For testing the maps we would need some players online at the same time. How about setting a time and day to test the maps, so that you aren't alone trying to test the map. I'm not sure if I have time, but if I have, I would join to test them Wink

I would really like to join, but the last 2 months of my school-live are beginning now, so I should learn instead of play ET Wink
After that I won't have anything to do for one month (instead of enjoying my live and party Very Happy ), so I think I can play more often then.

Ok guys the server is up and i was talking to Tim yesterday about wich map we will choose for our server and we have set at 7pm GMT time to meet in the server to test the maps and choose. So who can come to help us to choose them will be very welcome, the server ip is 91.121.141.217:27962 password: 666test.
