U need more RAM!!! (1 gb ) U just need to check if your motherboad support it.. if not u will need to change it.
Are u using onboard Video Card, or a AGP one.. ?

try to find out your motherboard model, and post it here. I will give u a hand ! Very Happy
U can also try an online hardware scanner like this one http://www.ezaudit.com/scan/default.htm

As for the ram thing.. try corsair, or kingston (cheaper but not bad)

cheers

download EVEREST or use what puaj is suggesting. - you need to know exactly what your system has onboard. replacing motherboard is fiddly - only to be done if you are a deadly competent pc person.

easy things to improve performance of the pc you already have are

1. memory up to 3gb
2. video card with onboard memory of up to 1GB

(your system will not address more than 4 gb and this includes memory on peripherals such as videocard - hence the totals.).

depending on hnow old your sytem is .... new memory can get a liottle costly - but it is is still the most cost effective way to upgrade a system. if it comes to more than three or four hundred odd it may be the time to bite the bullet and buy a new system, which is roughly where i;m at ...

Skull, ur PC is wayyyy tooo old since u can't even find ur Mobo model. even if u do find RAM for ur PC (that will definitely b more expensive than the new 1s) it is NOT gonna do u any good. forget it.do 1 thing - if u have a budget or whatever budget u have tell me so i point u at some ebay auctions where we will build it slowly but surely. we need a robust Mobo (Asus), CPU (AMD 64 bit or intel 2 Duo depending on ebay bidders), 1 or 2 GB of RAM, a kick ass VGA with reasonable price (newest nforce 4 GT for budget gamers) and a 7200 RPM HDD. i have built my whole PC thru ebay with less than $2000 and it is a flying machine - the $2k is NO benchmark - we can build u a nice pc for a $1000 - pm me with ur email and stuff - will get u up and running in no time

Ok so your saying i have to build a new computer from the ground up? what if i got a new computer, something like an alienware computer, because even if i do start from scratch i wont know how to build it or piece it together. i have about $500, but if i went for a straight new computer i could get my parents to chip in a lot

Skull, Alienware are THE MOST expensive comps bro. goes without saying they are also the best for they come SUPERCHARGED. but an alienware comp is a bitch when it comes to pricing. if u got that much money than hallellujah. do it. just send me the specs and price PRIOR to buying it man.

man this is a pretty awesome deal with the exception of ONE glitch; the VGA:NVIDIA nForce 430 - it is BS - yes PCI-E 16x but the fucking RAM is shit (dedicated ram is only 128) - call compUSA and tell them u want the same machine with AT LEAST the new 320 MB nvidia geforce 8 series - budget yet very good vga (GEFORCE 8800 GTS is a good deal) check this from nvidia pricing: XFX GeForce 8800GTS 500MHZ 320MB 1.6GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV HDCP DIRECTX10 Video Card - it is only around $250 . u already have a monitor. (i recommend at least a 19 or 22 inch lcd screen) i bought the acer 22" for $250 on ebay brand new. again ur machine is perfect just fix VGA

Re: Improving My computer

Post by TheKicKer on Sat Dec 15, 2007 10:51 am

oh dear me, dear me - Skull, apparently ur I.T. Knowledge is as good as Wilt ET gaming skills. The nvidia is a VGA. if CompUSA installs it Y buy an XFX? (BTW XFX, BFG, etc.. are all brands that buy the Nvidia technology from NVIDIA or ATI and manufacture the cards) so whatever 320 mb geforce 8800 series compUSA installs no probs go for it - forget XFX it was an example. but again if u can tell me ur budge based ON THIS PC maybe we can add a better VGA to that SAME PC.it is a wow deal. trust me. the same 8800 series VGA with 640 mb will cost i.e.: $500 . wot i'm trying to say is for the HP u saw: RAM r enough, HDD is enough (and u can buy as many HDD as u want), CPU is excellent, DVD is great - it is also with lightscribe, sound is 8 channels so u can have surround - the existing VGA is shit. just call them as i said tell them how much EXTRA u gotta pay for an 8800 series 320 MB vga and 640 mb 880 series (i bought the latest 8800 vga 768 MB and paid $739 which is the price of ur whole pc that is y i asked for budget). voila. i hope this is clear

Re: Improving My computer

Post by TheKicKer on Sat Dec 15, 2007 11:30 pm

Geforce 8800: (BFG r one of the most expensive brands - wot i am illustrating below is average regardless of brands) all of them are GDDR3 (their intenal RAM)
320 MB $225
512 MB $300
640 MB $329
768 MB $500

now the above has GT, GTS, GTX and Ultra - i told u b4 if u can afford the ULTRA (768 MB bought it for $739 now it's in the $500 range) it is still in ur budget this is though WITHOUT screen. to take advantage of any of the above VGAs u need the $150 to $250 screens (Samsung, Acer and DELL r a good choice so mingle between VGA price and screen). if ur screen is as old as ur comp now the VGA is wasted for the resolution u get is FUCKING AWESOME. even porn is AWESOME. add to that ur machine is actually a MEDIA machine (videos and shit) wot we r adding makes it a good gaming machine. take care skully boy, needless to say the sound included will get u on ventrilo bro. keep me posted
