internet speed.

Post by Rampage on Sun Dec 09, 2007 7:41 pm

ok guys heres the problem.

i have 8mg broadband and everytime i play online games it lags out and connection fucks up. even on our brand new server it fucks up. a friend says i need to increase my speed of broadband to 10mg + to play decent games on xbox or pc. is this right? BT provide this shit service for me (by the way i cant use phoneline and internet at same time, isnt that the point of broadband??) and said i should DROP my speed. i havent a clue i just want to play without people jumping around or me lagging out as i call in airstrikes on call of duty 4.

any help is much appriciated.

8 meg broadband is more than enough to play wolf or most other games for that matter, your isp is the problem.
BT is a load of shit m8. simple. i would fuck them off and go to a proper isp.

http://news.cnet.co.uk/software/0,39029694,49294637,00.htm

coz you have a BT line installed its very easy to change isp, you can even do it online i think. most isp's use BT lines for thier service.

not being able to use your phone and broadband at the same time sounds fucked up. sure they still havnt got you on dial up?

bt are fucking you around for sure. I have a bt line, AOL as my isp, i can use phone and modem at same time. I have a Netgear modem router and it is perfectly happy to let me play ET as badly as ever, with no additional excuses - meaning, in my case, no additional lag - at the same time as running our home network on which my wife and oldest daughter both download chocolate, which takes a lot of bandwidth... do you have one of the BT voyager ADSL modems? I had one and they worked fine - but quite apart from anything else, you should still be able to run a phone out of the back of your pc ... i suspect you have been trying to save money by using string instead of cables. And I'm here to tell you IT WON'T WORK

you will get new contract with whichever isp you choose..it should not affect your contract with BT as you will still be paying them line rental (which your new isp will probably take into account with thier bill ). if you wanna change isp just cancel your broadband with BT and ring them to retrieve your MAC code which your new isp will need. then with that code you can join any isp you wish.

0800 800 060 is the BT number to get your mac code..it will be 17-18 digits long.

this website is handy for instructions on how too get your mac code& see which providers can use it

ramps are you sure that u need two routers? are they talking to each other nicely or is there may be a conflict as far as sharing the connection's concerned? do they both think they're the network hub?

the other way of sharing a net connection - this is what i use - is the netgear xe104. You stick it in a mains socket and connect to router; then you can run ethernet connections from the XE104 (it has four inputs). (if you plug another xe104, or xe103, in another mains plug elsewhere in the house it runs a network over your mains/ringmain, so for instance i've got four pcs netted, with wireless access for wife's laptop, around the house - dead simple setup- i'll never try a wireless network again...) if there's no problem with xbox/pc compatibility connection wise then it might be simpler - you end up with a peer to peer network that allots resources as you go, and you can confiugure speeds too in your network settings ...

this is unlike me in that it's vaguely sensible. It must be my tome of the month or something Sad

the other router is so i can play online while someone else uses my pc at same time if needed.

ok so on sppedtest.net my reccomended server (dublin) is 62 kb/s upload and 106kb/s download.

in london my download 1103 kb/s and upoad 156 kb/s.

wass that mean?

could poor connection be related to the weather if a phoneline is loose on roof?

Ramp - most of ISPs ADSL is actually BELOW ground - the only problem u might have thru such wires is if u r REALLY far from the mother Switch box of ur ISP - the longer the cable the more loss of packets u will have BUT no ISP will install enough long cable WITHOUT relays up to losing a substancial amount of PAckets. but 106 KB download is not fabulous. i only have 2 MB here and my upload is 40 to 50 KB which is FINE and my download is 240 on average. ET and other games should b fine but i am NOT fine cuz of my ISP. the latency is UP THE ROOF. do me a favor and do the following that i am posting below and send me a screenshot of the result (we are doing this for specifically our european ET server:
GO TO: RUN (CLICK START, RUN) click enter
TYPE: CMD (A DOS BOX WILL OPEN) click enter
TYPE: TRACERT 217.163.27.46 click enter

when u do this u will get a list of HOPS - that is the pitstops from ur home to reaching our server (with a max of 30 hops) the middle milliseconds number that u get for each hop is the average 1 - that one when it leaves ur modem and local ISP should b of max. 150 or so (mine is 500 so it is FUCKED)- get me a copy of that trace route so i tell u wot to do. the way to copy that is simple once the whole trace is complete
RIGHT CLICK UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THAT WINDOW (ON THE C:\)
CLICK ON EDIT
CLICK ON SELECT ALL
AGAIN RIGHT CLICK UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THAT WINDOW (ON THE C:\)
CLICK EDIT
CLICK COPY
THAN PASTE IN NOTEPAD OR ANY TXT PAD.

send this shit to me so i tell u wot u need to do.

cheers,

it is a very generous offer kicker. maybe we can come to some arrangement as i like the personal touch more than watching.

maybe a joint effort?

if all other types of democracy fails of course
